Episode 222 - Pimp Down
What happened when you visited Tanisha in jail?Visiting Tanisha in jail was a very... memorable experience. Walking up to the prison itself was quite intimidating. It was a large, ominous building with unsavory characters milling around outside. Once I got inside, I waited in a very long line for over an hour until it was Tanisha’s turn to get out. I watched people visiting friends, family, and significant others who were locked up - all of them happy to see their loved one but obviously distressed that they were in this place. I won’t lie... I was very intimidated by the whole thing. It was very scary. All I could think about was, if this was what it was like to only visit, I couldn't imagine what Tanisha was going through.
Once I was buzzed in to see Tanisha, I entered a very small closet like area with the stereotypical glass and two phones. I chatted to Tanisha, and we spoke about the arrest and her court date. We only had about five minutes, and I left absolutely depressed, because I knew that she had to spend the entire weekend there. Tanisha was unluckily arrested on a Friday night, at the beginning of a three-day weekend. That Monday was a government holiday, so her case would not be seen until Tuesday. Staying in that jail must have been horrific but when I saw her, she was in great spirits, joking that she at least got to watch TV (during production of the show, we were not allowed to watch TV or listen to any music due to copyright issues). She was a good sport about the whole thing, and I was amazed that she could stay so calm in that kind of situation. I know that I would not have lasted. |
